Maria Jane Smith has always been a storyteller. As a child, she wanted to be an author, but after learning guitar, she turned her personal stories into songs. In her teens, she formed the folk-pop duo Smith & Thell with Victor Thell. Their 2017 debut "Soulprints" earned two gold records, with hits like "Forgive Me Friend" and "Hotel Walls" topping charts and gaining over 200 million streams. They also won a Swedish Grammis in 2020 for Songwriters of the Year. Seeking independence, Smith teamed up with producer David Morup in Los Angeles to create her solo debut, A Glitch in the Matrix, blending acoustic and electronic influences. The album releases in spring of 2025, with the first single "Adrian", which arrived in September 2024.
